The workspace · Your numbers

Know where the business stands, and where each figure came from.

Put in each month's figures and the Floor shows how the month closed, what is off its target and what needs you, on the first screen you see. Every figure opens to the records behind it.

The workspace's Floor for the sample business, Larkspur Facility Services, marked as a sample: a letter saying September closed with a $23,300 surplus and one initiative fell behind its pace, the four month-end figures with how much of each is traced to records, and where the plan stands.

What you get

  • The month at a glance

The Floor opens on how the month closed, each measure beside the month before, and what needs a look, decided by rule: a figure off its target or missing, a sharp swing, a short runway.

  • Every figure opens to its rows

The Inspector shows the records behind a figure, where each one came from and who put it in, and how much of the figure has a record behind it.

  • Your own measures and targets

Revenue, expenses and cash are built in. Add up to 12 measures of your own, and give any measure a target it should be at least or at most.

  • All of it yours to download

The owner and the managers can download everything the business keeps, at any time: figures, plan, decisions, briefings and the rest.

How it works

  1. Put in the month

Type it in or import a spreadsheet. You see what would be kept first, and nothing is kept until you keep it.

  2. Set your targets

Say what each measure should be at least or at most, and every month is checked against it.

  3. See what needs a look

The Floor lists what is off target, missing, swinging sharply or coming due, and each line opens the record it names.

  4. Open any figure

When a number surprises you, open it to its rows and see where it came from.

The Inspector open on the sample business's September revenue of $84,500: twelve records, eleven invoices read from QuickBooks Online and one retainer typed in by hand, and how much of the figure has a record behind it.
